After the WWII, the reconstruction of Europe began. Plenty of homes were built and connected to the sewer system. There was therefore a demand for the temporary sealing of sewer pipes. The first sewer closures consisted mainly of metal surrounded by an inflatable band, called the sewer band. These so-called disc plugs are still used today.
